Biotechnology Education and Outreach Program, in
collaboration with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Undergraduate
Biological Sciences Education |
| This program focuses on the improvement of
science education by providing Illinois high school teachers
training in basic molecular biology techniques and concept while
attending an intensive summer workshop at the University of
Illinois. In order for teachers to perform these laboratory
exercises with their students, a "footlocker" loaner program
is available with a complete set of equipment and supplies. For teachers
in the Chicago Public School system, Saturday morning training sessions
are held in the Chicago area schools. Future plans include "Biotech
Day", an event to bring teachers and students from many high
schools to the UIUC campus for information exchange to broaden their
