DIRECTOR OF BIOINFORMATICS

Qualifications: Ph.D. in Bioinformatics or in a field related to Life Sciences with experience in bioinformatics. Expertise is required in all aspects of bioinformatics processing of genomic, EST, and metagenomic DNA sequencing approaches including traditional Sanger, as well as new emerging sequencing technologies. This position also requires excellent communication skills, understanding of computer hardware and software, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Candidates must be eligible to work in the U.S.
Responsibilities: The University of Illinois Carver Biotechnology Center is a core user facility that assists campus researchers in genomic, proteomic, and metabolomic experimentation. Responsibilities of this position are to direct the staff of the Bioinformatics Unit of the Carver Biotechnology Center, to manage and enhance the resources of the Center, and to guide projects initiated within the University and by external researchers. The successful candidate will work closely with faculty and staff in bioinformatics processing of research projects. Director will actively work on and manage processing, assembly, and annotation of DNA sequencing, archiving data, maintenance of in-house developed software, data mining, and to carry out and advise on microarray data analysis. In addition, the Carver Biotechnology Center sponsors workshops in genomics and proteomics in which the Director of Bioinformatics will assist.
Type of Position: Full-time Academic Professional. Salary is commensurate with experience.
